The Halfling Caravan
A few months after the founding of the new kingdom, Happs’ Rangers encountered a slave caravan along the South Rostland Road and freed the slaves. The caravan consisted of over a hundred halflings. Many settled in and around Leveton, including the Woodbristle clan who began the expansion of the farm community centered around the Bunce farm west of Leveton.
All the witnesses unanimously agree that the Chelaxian slave master became combative and the Rangers were forced to kill the slavers in self-defense. Since all the witnesses are either Rangers or freed slaves, some find their testimony somewhat suspect.
Given the new kingdom’s anti-slave policy and Happs’ vocal devotion to the Lady Parin, many suspect the Rangers in fact learned about the slave caravan beforehand and ambushed them, then killed the slavers when they would not free the slaves.
