The Council Guard
The Council Guard is a unit specially recruited to protect the members of Veteris’s council. Each member is an experienced warrior, trained in fighting from horseback and on foot, and sworn to defend the Council with their lives. There are only 25 Council Guards and they were all vetted and tested by both General Garess and Warden d’Magnon before being admitted to service.
They focus on protecting the less martial of the Councillors, such as the Councillor, Grand Diplomat and Magister. Some other members of the Council have also proved resistant to the idea of having bodyguards, such as the High Priest, and eschew the Guard’s protection. Though based in Pază castle, the Guards travel with their protectees when they travel abroad, so are frequently in Restov with the Grand Diplomat.
The Guards are as decorative as they are capable, wearing tabards in the kingdom’s colors and masterwork armor polished until it shines. They carry different weapons, as befits warriors who gained their experience before being recruited to service, but all are masterwork or magical. Each guard also has a pair of war-trained mounts, to allow for the swift transportation of a Council member in peril.
